A Deadly Obsession is now available on DVD!

A Deadly Obsession, a film I am very proud of, is now available on DVD.  Order it at Amazon http://tinyurl.com/oz2neah.

The film, starring Katee Sackhoff, Grant Harvey, and John Shea tells the story of a troubled young man who commits a heinous act, and the psychologist who tries to help him.  In the aftermath of the Newtown, and Aurora shootings, this film was viewed as too controversial, even though it deals, head-on, with the problems of mental illness and gun violence.

Please check it out and support this important film.

The March Sisters at Christmas airs this Holiday Season

The March Sisters at Christmas, a modern day re-telling of Louisa May Alcott's classic tale, "Little Women" will air four times this holiday season on Lifetime.

Friday Nov. 29 at 2PM, Sunday Dec. 8 at 1PM, Friday Dec. 20 at 8PM and finally Saturday Dec. 21 at 12AM.

Set your DVRs or catch it live.  I am very proud of this movie.  It is true to the spirit of the original book and the characters of the four sisters even though it takes place today and not during the civil war.  It was such fun to make.  We shot it in the lovely little town of Grafton, MA.  All four of the actresses, Julie Berman as Jo, Kaitlin Doubleday as Meg, Meli Farman as Beth and Molly Kunz as Amy really bonded and felt like actual sisters by the time we wrapped. Just in Time for Halloween! The Legend Lucy Keyes screens on Lifetime

Julie Delpy and John Stimpson on set of Lucy Keyes

Each Halloween season it is so fun to see renewed interest in my film, The Legend of Lucy Keyes.  Reporters start calling, it plays more regularly on the air, Netflix views increase.  I even had a stalker the other day!  Well, not a stalker, but an interested ghost hunter and fan.  I was actually kind of flattered.  We had some people working on our back patio and they saw a car go back and forth a few times in front of our house.  Now, you gotta understand, I live on a very quiet road… Finally the people got out of the car and asked if this was where the director of the movie, The Legend of Lucy Keyes, lives, and did they shoot the movie here?  A little creepy, I guess.

It has also been so exciting to see the careers of our actors hit the moon! Julie Delpy was absolutely wonderful in Before Midnight and I loved 2 Days in New York and 2 Days in Paris.  Justin Theroux, besides his romance with Jennifer Aniston has written and directed some amazing projects.  Iron Man 2, Tropic Thunder and his directorial debut, Dedication and the upcoming Zoolander 2.  Mark Boone Junior has been scary good on Sons of Anarchy.

Happy Halloween!

A Little More About John Stimpson

John Stimpson is one of the most prolific filmmakers working in the Boston area today.

A former President of Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, John has been directing film, television and commercial projects in Massachusetts for 25 years.

In 1999, John got his first chance to direct a feature film with The Gentleman from Boston that was released internationally as Beacon Hill. The film stars Michael Landes, Wendy Benson, Grainger Hines and Drea De Matteo of Sopranos fame.

Inspired by a local haunting, John penned his first screenplay, The Legend of Lucy Keyes, which he directed in 2004. The film starring Julie Delpy, Justin Theroux and Brooke Adams has been seen around the world. The success of Lucy Keyes spurred a string of Massachusetts based film projects; A Christmas Kiss, Sexting in Suburbia, A Deadly Obsession, Last Hours in Suburbia, The March Sisters at Christmas, Sins of the Preacher and the upcoming, Off Season. All of which are expecting or have already achieved successful, profitable domestic and international runs.

Along the way, John has had the pleasure of working with such well- known actors as John Shea, Katee Sackhoff, Liz Vassey, Judith Hoag, Maiara Walsh and Elisabeth Rohm. With acting experience, Stimpson approaches directing from an actor’s perspective and believes that motion pictures are the ultimate collaborative creative medium.

For Stimpson the filmmaking process is about capturing the magic - on the page, within the performance and ultimately on the screen - that moves an audience.

John’s 15 years of experience as an editor inform, color, and streamline his shot choices, making his set as innovative, efficient and fun as possible.

“The work is too difficult for it not to be fun.”
